Photovoltaic-Powered Bra

Clearly we’re huge fans of environmentally-friendly innovation, but this has got to be one of the most ridiculous ideas ever to hit the green market. The photovoltaic-powered bra was unveiled in Tokyo Wednesday by one of world’s largest lingerie companies, Triumph International Japan.

The green bra boasts a solar panel around the midriff that can generate enough energy to power an Ipod or its small monitor, which can display messages, such as “save the planet.” It also features liquid-holding baggies with detachable straws in an effort to discourage use of cans and bottles.

But there appears to be a catch, based on this Reuter’s story:

“The panel requires light to generate electricity and the concept bra will not be in stores anytime soon, said Triumph spokeswoman Yoshiko Masuda, as "people usually can not go outside without wearing clothes over it."

But it does send the message of how lingerie could possibly save the planet, Masuda said.

Hmmm, that’s a mighty tall order for a bra. But the gimmick (and Triumph) has managed to receive a ton of press (guess we now have to count ourselves too) and provide solar power another moment or two under those energy-gobbling spotlights.
