Are Milk and Meat Entering the Clone Age?

The FDA is poised to allow meat and milk from cloned animals into the commercial market, we learned from a Washington Post article yesterday. Although the feds say cloned foodstuffs are “as safe as the food we eat every day,” public wariness abounds. Animal rights activists are concerned about the humane treatment of clones; some folks have religious and ethical objections to cloning, and others think the whole thing is just plain creepy.

But of all the objections out there, we like the dairy industry’s best. According to the article, milk companies “fear that any association with cloning could harm milk's carefully honed image of wholesomeness.”

Au contraire, big dairy! We think a “got clones?” slogan would bring a much-needed infusion of weirdness to milk’s tired ad campaign.
