Eco-Speak: Ecopolis

ecopolis [e·kah·puh·lis] n. An entire city focused on creating as minimal an ecological footprint as possible. Common features include using renewable energy; minimizing waste; and using local, organic, and sustainable products and materials.

Sample usage: “Nancy, I’m so excited about our trip to Chicago. We’re going to be visiting a real ecopolis!” “Actually,Ppaul, Chicago may be green, but most cities still create tons of waste and rely on fossil fuels for power. They pale in comparison to ecopolises of the future, like the United Arab Emirates’ Masdar City.” (see page 38 for more about Masdar.)
