It’s S’Wunderful

5713

There are some rules of fashion that should never be broken: Scrungees should never be worn outside the comfort of your home, pajama pants as office attire are undeniably UNacceptable, and horizontal stripes are an absolute no no. Okay, so maybe that last rule of thumb is a bit more of the bendable kind…but only (we repeat ONLY) if you’re a Wunderwurks lamp and your lovely little name is Jupiter. Made entirely from EVA (a fully recyclable material), this modern lady isn’t afraid to flaunt her handmade shade wherever she goes. Plus Wunderwurks makes sure to keep waste to an absolute minimum by recycling any extra materials that pop up during the production process, re-melting scraps, and even using excess adhesive to seal shipping boxes. And all the effort, well, it’s certainly worth it. Because she sure does light up a room, doesn’t she?

What the Fudge!

Eat your fudge with a little less guilt. Allison’s Gourmet is an award-winning online artisan bakery that features organic vegan fudge freshly made with only the finest soy-free and organic ingredients available. Try the original or the one with walnuts—they’re both free of animal ingredients, cholesterol and highly-refined sweeteners. If you feel like sharing your fudge, sign up your friends and family for Allison’s Fudge of the Month Club, which makes monthly delivers of such deliciously fudge-y varieties as butterscotch pecan and peanut buttery chocolate chip. The Allison Gourmet collection also includes gourmet cookies and brownies, vegan chocolates, and organic coffee, tea, and hot cocoa.

Doing the Dishes

Is Grandma’s hand-me-down dishware starting to look a little, well, old? Start anew with Grenware’s elegant, eco-friendly dinnerware, made primarily with renewable plant fiber from bamboo, straw, and rice hulls, and colored with hues derived from natural products like coconuts. Though gentle on the planet, Grenware is super durable and dishwasher safe (though the company does recommend avoiding microwave or oven use). And the best part? Grenware is biodegradable, so when you’re ready for a change in dinnerware, simply break the dishes and throw them in the compost. They’ll biodegrade in as little as 4 months. Check out the Grenware line here.

You’ve kept it hidden way underneath the sink with the paper towels, unsightly spray bottles, and repulsively bright rubber gloves. And rightly so. Your drab little detergent bottle doesn’t exactly go with the décor…or does it? With Daub & Bauble’s exquisitely designed line of detergents, hand soaps, and lotions you can add totally eco-elegant touches simply by purchasing the usual fair you use to keep your kitchen tidy. Made with all natural ingredients like Aloe and Vitamin E, all of Daub & Bauble’s products are also stored in 100 percent recyclable containers. Plus they come in amazing flavors, like their new limited edition Arriba Cacao and Spice Concentrated Dish Detergent which has hints of curry, cardamom and chili pepper. It smells so amazing you’ll practically want to put it atop a delightful little salad. But please, try to restrain yourself.

Burn, Baby, Burn

The weather outside may soon be frightful, but your fire will be—all together now—so delightful. When you switch to Java-logs! Using the 20 million pounds of spent grounds that instant coffee companies dispose of each year (which would otherwise be funneled into landfills and release greenhouse gasses during decomposition), Java-log has invented a winter treat that burns three times as bright as regular logs, and seven times cleaner. Want stats? Java-logs emit 96% less residue after combustion, 87% less carbon monoxide, 86% less creosote deposits, and 83% less particulate matter. Those, for the record, are all bad things you don’t want to be emitting or breathing in, so your new fireplace will be green and gold. Best of all, the ashes leftover from your Java-log are perfect for mixing into compost, or in with the soil in your flower beds. Use the company’s store locator to find a shop near you that’s stocking Java-logs.
