Lighten Up

Is the bedroom looking a little drab? Brighten it up with a colorful bedspread made from recycled, geometric vintage scarves. One side of Ouno Design’s one-of-a-kind quilt features a hodge-podge of scarves that come from rag houses across the world. On the flip side is a sturdy, solid-tone, 50/50 organic hemp/cotton weave that’s vegetable-dyed a pale sage green and feels linen-soft. Though their features are delicate, the fiber in these durable blankets is not—each one is machine-washable and 100 percent pre-shrunk so there’s no need to worry about finding an eco-friendly dry-cleaner. The prices are on the high end (between $400 and $800), but the extra cost is worth it if only to avoid the cookie-cutter Ikea look that so many bedrooms fall victim to.
