Haute Green

Luxe department store Barneys is lending a little bit of its glamour to the green movement. Out to prove that eco-fashion can be as chic, edgy, and sexy as the rest of its designer wares the store partnered with organic-cotton jeans and tees label Loomstate in February to create Loomstate for Barneys Green, a collection of dresses, fleece hoodies, and skirts aimed at uptown girls (and guys). Up next is Green Caste, an eco-denim line from Earnest Sewn, set to hit the racks in November. Conventional jeans are produced through a notoriously water-wasteful and chemical-heavy process, but these Earnest Sewn slacks will be made with more eco washing agents, use river water (which it will return to the source, cleaner than it was at the start), and conserve on gas and electricity through hang-drying. This eco streak will extend to the store’s holiday campaign which, staying true to its signature wicked sense of humor, will feature Rudolph the Recycled Reindeer and Frosty the Fair Trade Snowman.
