Everyday Art

2911

Johnny Swing doesn’t just make home furnishings—he makes usable art. As an eco bonus, Swing designs much of his dazzling line of furniture, lighting, and sculpture from reclaimed items, like dollar bills, quarters, loose change, and jar lids. He used 96 baby food jars to craft The Jar Chair, which offers a massage-like feel and an illuminated look when the light hits it. Swing’s Leather Disk couch, made from remnants of Italian leather floor tiles, resembles a super-mod park bench, while The Big Jardalear uses satellite dishes and storage jars to create a visually stunning chandalier. His well-crafted work with intricate detail certainly belongs in a museum—or better yet, your living room.
