A Makeover Story

Though undeniably reliable, flip-flops have never had much use beyond traversing long city blocks or protecting feet from hot, sandy beaches. But thanks to Uncommon Goods, flip-flops have gone multi-functional, retaining their weather worn place under your feet but comforting your dogs in a new—and wholly unexpected—way.  The New York City-based purveyor of eclectic, earth-friendly products has partnered with a company that takes leftover rubber from a flip-flop factory and weaves those sandal bits into colorfully patterned, mosaic mats, which Uncommon Goods then sells on their eponymous website. The mats come in large and small sizes, and since each one is handmade, each one looks slightly different. Reincarnation. It’s a beautiful thing.
