The Gift that Keeps on Giving: Endangered Species Poop

Now here's a unique holiday gift idea. The International Rhino Foundation is auctioning off dung from four species of endangered rhino: the white rhino, black rhino, Indian rhino and the Sumatran rhino. Opening bids range from $100 to $500, depending on the rarity of the species. (Indeed, a bargain!)

The IRF says that "All proceeds from the auction will benefit IRF's conservation programs and help us to save rhinos from extinction."

Why dung? According to the IRF, "Most rhinos use piles of dung to leave 'messages' for other rhinos - nuances in the of smell of dung can tell a rhino a lot about others in the area." In keeping with that theme, an outreach like this auction -- great PR, isn't it? --  helps to spread the message about the importance of rhino conservation.

You can get the full scoop on the poop here, and bid on the auctions here. (Come on, you know you want to.)
