Dam Removal Helping to Save Endangered Minnow

Populations of the endangered Cape Fear Shiner minnow have rebounded since a dam on Deep River was removed last year, in what has been called "one of the biggest ecological success stories in North Carolina." In just one year, the minnow's habitat has expanded to fill territories where it has not been seen in 80 years. The Cape Fear Shiner was added to the Endangered Species List in 1987.
