Turtle-protection fence seeks funding


The shattered bodies of endangered Alabama red-bellied turtles can be found all over the U.S. 90 Causeway in two counties of the turtles' home state. How to save the turtles? Build a really long fence along the highway. The Press-Register reports:

Now, a coalition of turtle lovers, environmental groups and state and federal agencies are on the verge of installing miles of fencing along the edges of the road to stop the deaths, which peak during the spring and summer. The last remaining challenge is to secure funding from the Alabama Department of Transportation, according to those involved in the fencing effort.
