New Zealand quail species may be alive after all

1875 -- that's the last year that the New Zealand quail species coturnix novaezelandiae was last seen. Until this year... maybe.

It turns out that a remote species of quail, which has been observed many times, might actually be the long-believed extinct species. The thing is, people have been seeing these quail for so long that no one thought to actually look at them closely.

Genetic testing could prove if the current quail are actually coturnix novaezelandiae. Good luck, little birds.
