Amur tiger population continues to grow

Sixty years ago, the Amur (or Siberian) tiger population had dwindled to an estimated 40 animals. Today, a Russian census puts that number at between 480 and 520, plus another 100 or so animals in captivity, bringing the world's total Amur tiger population to approximately 600. Russia reports that the current population is as high as the food chain will allow.
