Florida: annual manatee count down slightly

This year's count of the Florida manatee population found about 300 fewer animals, but record populations in certain areas of the state. Florida's annual manatee-population survey "is not intended to represent the state's overall manatee population but simply offers a minimum number," according to a report from the Associated Press. The count is up approximately 220% since the first census in 1991.
