Tomorrow is National Thylacine Day

Tomorrow, September 7th, marks 70 years since the Australian carnivorous marsupial known as the thylacine went extinct. Hunted to the point of extinction, the last known thylacine died in Hobart's Zoo on September 7, 1936 (although the species was not officially declared extinct until 20 years ago).

(It's worth noting that some people -- including those fun-loving cryptozoologists -- believe the thylacine may still exist in the remote wilds of Australia. Shall we cross our fingers?)
