UK invaded by American crayfish

Over in the UK, native crayfish "have been moved to a new home in the Mendips, Somerset, in order to protect them from 'aggressive alien species'," the BBC reports.

The aliens in question? American signal crayfish, first imported as food, but now let loose in the wild.

Not only are the American crays larger and more aggressive than their UK cousins, they also carry a "deadly crayfish plague" which is "wiping out" native crayfish around the country, the BBC reports.
