The British are coming
Two green celeb stories won’t seem to die: first, there may be more news items covering Natalie Portman’s vegan shoe line than there are vegan shoe-buyers in the world. And we’re sure you’ve heard by now about Radiohead’s Thom Yorke urging Europeans to commit to yearly targets to reduce their carbon footprints, and saying the band won’t play the Glastonbury festival because it’s not easily accessible by public transportation.
But we (I) at The Dirt like to dig (um, through the dirt) for those happenings that haven’t yet saturated the media. So, speaking of Great Britain, it’s the folks on the other side of the puddle who seem to be taking over the do-gooding this week.
Stella McCartney’s fall and winter line of vegan fashion debuted in Paris last week. (In attendance were England’s adopted icons, the Live Earth alum Madonna and the macrobiotic Gwyneth Paltrow.)
And Heather Mills, the former wife of Stella’s dad, Paul McCartney, is engaged in a bitter legal battle with him, but is also reportedly in talks to host her own vegan cooking show. (Also according to this story, Heather and Stella are sworn enemies. Meow!)
It’s not just rock’s royal family but actual royalty getting in the ring this week. Prince Charles, already a superhero of environmentalism, has endeared himself further by banning the sale of foie gras on royal menus. The change came after a vegetarian activist spotted the controversial cruelly obtained delicacy for sale in a royal cheese shop and wrote Charles a letter of complaint. Now the royal warrant of that shop, The House of Cheese in Gloucestershire, may be withdrawn if they don’t stop selling foie gras. The letter-writer, Justin Kerswell, said, "Foie gras is seen as very posh and the heir to the throne is probably the poshest person in Britain, so for him to ban it is very good news."
By the way, as you’ve no doubt seen all over the Internet, this week’s queen of all media, Natalie P., says Stella’s vegan shoes are great but are “expensive and very fashiony.” No word on what she thinks about foie gras, but she’s vegan, so we can venture a guess.

Dear Dirt
You know that Hollywood sign on the hillside in that photo? I have a good idea, been thinking about it for a year or so. Someone who is good at photoshopping, should erase the word "Hollywood" from the sign there and replace it with the words "GLOBAL WARMING" as a kind of iconic warning sign for the world. Do you know anyone who could do this and post it somewhere on the Web, maybe right here at the Dirt? I for one will be happy to see it done and i think the the photoshpped sign will become a powerful tool to wake more people up to the needs of fighting this climate crisis we are in, in both big ways and swmall ways, can you photoshpp this and ask someone. when done email me at danbloom GMAIL
thanks
